Oh that is GREAT! It's tied for First Place for Christmas Picture of the Year. The other is this picture of my niece's dogs.

Both pictures belong on Christmas cards!

Hi Mikie, being a doggie person I think thats a great photo, thanks for adding . . . . . . . . ^_^

Sadly my girlfriends dog died the week before Christmas, as what happens afterwards then the house seems a lot more empty.

Ken, Seeing photos like this makes me wish I had traveled to Normandy when it was easier to wander around and see the battlefields.

.

Hi Erick, well what was here was largely untouched and in certain spots almost as it was at the end of the war stuff still left laying around.

Strangely there was less to see during my early trips, certainly less museums, less memorials, less identified locations, as the tourism increased over the years so has the number of museums, memorials, and identified locations, so now is actually an interesting time to visit, but sadly one of the towns that is greatly changed is Ste Mere Eglise.

Hahahaaa Rene that Jeep was my first Jeep, others came and went and it's now my last Jeep, it's been a member of the household since I was sixteen. . . . . . . . . .

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. So now it's up towards the New Year. As a precaution I did stock up on some aspirins should the need arise…….. ^_^

Rene, Aspirin has to be one of the miracle drugs for it's life saving capabilities, I won't add my experiences with it as I am not medically trained..

I hope we help get your mind off those life issues just a little. I know NDL helps me through a lot. Life would be a little less bearable without this crazy wonderful place.

Please pass along my sympathies for the loss of the dog. I lost my last dog, Dusty, way back about 1980. Had him for 14 years. I still think about and miss him from time to time.

Those could come in handy. The best way to treat a headache is to " grin and Bayer" it.

What's the expiration date on those things?

This photo of a commercial carrier appeared on FB this morning. Thought the group would enjoy seeing it.

Hi Erick, thanks for the image, here's another one from the same series of Commercial trucks moving military vehicles around. A nice Chevrolet COE carrying three Ford GPA's, there are more in this series, moving Dodge Carryalls and Dodge weapon-carriers around.

Hi Erick, thanks again for adding the shot of the Jeeps being transported. Here's another shot from the same series of military vehicles being transported, in this case three 3/4 ton Dodge trucks, Dodge Carryall, Dodge Command Car and Dodge Ambulance.

Years back I owned one of the 3/4 ton Dodge Carryalls, however my vehicle porn collecting habit was seriously curtailed by way of divorce selling my vehicles over the following years. . . . . . . . . . . . . been there, done that, got the tee shirt I hear by members reading this post.

Hi Leigh & Mikie, here's an image I emailed to a friends wife before Christmas as their son William was visiting for Christmas. The background to the photo was that I was on the roof of their barn fitting wood beams with Tina and son William stood watching me. . . . . . . . safety issues never being a big concern for me.

Hi Mikie, thanks for the sympathetic post, Jane inherited the dog when her mother died five years ago, so a double whammy for her . . . . .

My last dog died back in 2002, I had a weird experience as I buried him in the garden as I flipped my first shovel of soil out the hole a stone with a smiling face was looking back up at me, thats my keep-sake which I still have.

Two eyes, large brown nose and a smiling mouth bottom left corner . . . . . . . . . that was Pups.

Interesting series of photos. Anyone have any background on them? Just curious why they documented these vehicles being transported.

Normandy Then & Now . . . . . . . . . . . today

out and about in the Jeeps today for a New Years Day bbq and picnic. I managed about four hours max sleep last night I was up early and preparing eight litres of hot spiced red wine for the picnic. Once again the good old WWII aircraft insulated containers were used to transport the ' mulled wine '.

we drove out to a picnic spot overlooking the sea near Portbail on the other side of the peninsula to Utah beach, during our picnic it's become a tradition to offer a taste of the spiced red wine to people passing, a couple from Holland, and a couple from Paris all vacationing in the village.

On the way home I passed the location of this tank scene and stopped to photograph it, note on the fence the sign for a dentist and below that a red-cross flag on a stick, it would appear that the dentist was offering use of his surgery. I would have thought having a captured German flag on the American tank would have been a risky idea given the swarms of Allied aircraft flying above Normandy looking for targets.
