History Man Posted March 27, 2012 Share #1 Posted March 27, 2012 I was offered this along with some usn officer uniforms. I believe it to be either a WAC or WAVES cape but I am unsure due to the bullion lettering on the cap and cape. Any help is appreciated. (Sorry for the crappy photos, these are the ones the seller sent me). Philip
jpgrl Posted March 27, 2012 Share #2 Posted March 27, 2012 Def not WAC or WAVE... perhaps it is a civilian nurse cap and cape--nursing school "formal" wear for photos? What is the second letter on the cap? I can make out St. J(?) and not sure of the last one. I thought of a Catholic hospital b/c of the St. letters. Robswashashore Posted March 27, 2012 Share #3 Posted March 27, 2012 I think the last letter is an "H" Looks like a nursing school uniform for St. J's Hospital.
History Man Posted March 27, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted March 27, 2012 Yea, I was thinking it was civilian. It looks like it is: ST. J.K.? Philip
67Rally Posted March 27, 2012 Share #5 Posted March 27, 2012 I have a photo of my grandmother in her formal nurse's uniform from when she graduated in the 20's. Her cape is identical to this one.
manayunkman Posted August 29, 2012 Share #6 Posted August 29, 2012 This is the cape she got after graduating from Nursing school. The name of the school was Saint something. Not military. M
Bob Hudson Posted August 29, 2012 Share #7 Posted August 29, 2012 These civilian nurses capes are often presented as military nurse capes, but were in fact once very common for nusing schools and hospitals. If you were buying a Navy or Army nurse grouping you might find one of thesewith it, but they were not worn after leaving the particular school or hospital.
