patches Posted September 16, 2024 Author #379 Posted September 16, 2024 Just found out that the 31st Infantry has a Silver Punch Bowl made in China just like te 9th Infantry's Liscum Bowl, theirs is called the Shanghai Bowl. Beive its current location is at Fort Drum New York. While in Shanghai, the officers of the 31st collected $1,600 in silver dollars and had a Chinese silversmith craft a silver punch bowl and sixty-five matching cups to commemorate the regiment’s service in Shanghai. The bowl became an important part of future regimental ceremonies. The bowl and cups were buried on Corregidor by soldiers of the 31st before the island’s surrender in May 1942 and later recovered in 1945. Known as the Shanghai Bowl, it continues to be a prominent fixture in regimental ceremonies. The Bowl in 1966, I think in South Korea with the battalions of the 31st Infantry then in the 7th Infantry Division, the 1st and 2nd Battalions.
patches Posted September 17, 2024 Author #380 Posted September 17, 2024 Here's the Bowl today, today it's kept at Fort Drum New York.

Find-a-Grave strikes again and we see that despite Private Henry J. Bohl's serious wounds he survived and returned home to live a long and happy life until finally dying in 2010 at age 86.
