Mustang Posted March 12, 2012 Share #1 Posted March 12, 2012 Guys,a local junk man has a large quantity of canvas radio covers marked...........CW 653 VRC......all are unissued.I think I can get them fairly CHEAP but are they even worth lugging home? What era are they from?None are dated and they are not in any type of box.................just in a pile on the floor of his shop. capa Posted March 12, 2012 Share #2 Posted March 12, 2012 I googled CW 653 VRC and found this: Re: [MV] M151A2 Radio [email protected] Mon, 6 Sep 1999 04:35:14 EDT Messages sorted by: [ date ][ thread ][ subject ][ author ] Next message: Tim Bell: "[MV] WW2 Jeep Cable Carriers" Previous message: [email protected]: "Re: [MV] Vehicular parts and radio mt questions" Maybe in reply to: David W. I am not even sure = what the proper name or part number is for this item. >> Here's some information that may help:- For your RT-524 or RT-246 you need to find a "Cover, Canvas, CW-653/VRC (FSN 5820-082-3741)". These are not easy to get ahold of, because the Military decided in 1983 that the canvas cover caused more problems than it solved..... such as water retention, overheating etc........ so it ceased to be an issue item and its use was no longer authorised. Just for information, the canvas cover for the R-442 receiver is the CW-649/VRC (FSN 5820-082-3742) Kind regards.....
