US Victory Museum Posted December 29, 2007 Share #1 Posted December 29, 2007 Three types of enlisted WAVES' uniforms. The first is the Service Dress Blue uniform. If worn with the blue cover (hat in left of photo with "US Navy" band), then it is Dress Blue A; however, if it's worn with the white cover, as pictured, then it's Dress Blue B. Also included in the photo is the late war Garrison cap. The enlisted WWII era uniforms had dark blue plastic buttons; gold gilt was used on officers' uniforms. Post war, gold gilt were used on both enlisted, as well as officers' uniforms. Although some photos exist of WAVES wearing brown oxford shoes, the black oxford is the regulation shoe for the uniform. The second photo is the enlisted members' service Dress White uniform. The same hat with the white cover is worn with this uniform. Between 1945-1947 a white garrison cap could be worn. The third photo is the enlisted members' Gray Work Uniform. (In this photo it is shown with the jacket.) It is made from seersucker material and is white with gray stripes. N.B. The hat worn has the gray and white stripe cover to conform to the pattern of the uniform. The WAVES hat is a modular system consisting of a brim with snaps around it so that white, blue, and gray/white covers can be snapped into it to conform to the type of uniform being worn. Also photographed is the seersucker gray/white garrison cap.

Gregory Posted December 29, 2007 Share #6 Posted December 29, 2007 I like this subject very much and last months I mentioned WAVES in the Polish aerospace-military press. For one of my favourite picture of the USN Reserve women see below. Regards Greg

A local antique dealer has a jacket and skirt for sale, and I would like to know the era of the uniform. Also, I hate to ask, but do you know the appropriate price range for an officer's jacket and skirt? I have no idea what to offer .... Thanks, Tim
US Victory Museum Posted December 31, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted December 31, 2007 > TLHSS The last Dress Blue A Officer's uniform I saw that sold on Ebay was complete (and named) w/ hat and part of a group that included her dog-tags a gray/white seer sucker dress and some miscellaneous brick-a-brack like song books and stuff. It sold on Sept 27th 2007 for $ 356.57. (The photo showed that it was missing the collar patches.) Due to its being a part of a grouping, it is difficult to break out just how much the uniform alone was worth. As for identifying whether its war issue or post war, the labels were changed after the war (~1946). Enclosed you will find a photo I copied from http://www.blitzkriegbaby.de/homepage.htm The one that says Naval Reserve is post war, the one on the left is WWII era.
