robinb Posted March 4, 2012 Share #1 Posted March 4, 2012 It looks like any other OD wool blanket except for the tag with the Medical Dept stock number. The first I have ever encountered.
gunbunny Posted March 4, 2012 Share #2 Posted March 4, 2012 Very nice. A new one on me also. I found a white and maroon blanket dated 1942 last weekend. I wasn't aware that OD versions existed. Thanks for sharing.
Fixbayonets! Posted March 4, 2012 Share #3 Posted March 4, 2012 Hard enough to find regular issue WWII blankets with readable tags so this is indeed a nice find! I have also only come across one of these blankets, a vet (ETO medic) gave it to me some years ago. Here is a photo of the tag for comparison, dated January 1945. JB4244 Posted March 4, 2012 Share #4 Posted March 4, 2012 Hi, It's hard to find a blanket with readable tag. I've also a medical blanket with the "U.S." in the middle. It's practically the same as you robinb, the same month, but at 5 day intervals. Regards.

med-dept Posted March 4, 2012 Share #6 Posted March 4, 2012 Nice find, Robin! The OD Blankets were the ones designed to be carried in the two sizes of Blanket Bags. You can read about WW2 US Medical Blankets and sets (including a few illustrations of labels) over on our website: http://med-dept.com/blankets.php Regards, Ben.
