Vincennes Posted March 1, 2012 Share #1 Posted March 1, 2012 Here are a couple neat photos from the collection I recently acquired. They belonged to Raymond Roettger and I previously posted a few of the "crossing the equator" photos. Unfortunately the ships in these photos are not identified. But they are great photos. The first one shows sailors washing the anchor chain befor hoisting the anchor. Paul
Vincennes Posted March 1, 2012 Author Share #2 Posted March 1, 2012 This photo shows a ship to ship transfer in rough weather. Any guesses as to the ships or ship types? Paul
RustyCanteen Posted March 1, 2012 Share #3 Posted March 1, 2012 The first is an Iowa class battleship (looks like BB-61) and the second shows an oiler. RC
hink441 Posted March 1, 2012 Share #4 Posted March 1, 2012 Very nice pictures. I agree the first picture looks like the USS Iowa BB-61. The second picture is neat, you can see the oiler's port screw poking above the water. Chris
SlaterDoc Posted March 2, 2012 Share #5 Posted March 2, 2012 Well, that could be a 1 or a 4 under the anchor chain! This Navsource photo might help. Or, maybe not! Interesting though is the cable that seems to be wrapped around the anchor!!hmmm
Vincennes Posted March 2, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted March 2, 2012 Thanks guys. I think it must be BB-61. I did not even notice the partial number until it was pointed out to me. Here is an enlarged, increased contrast and rotated scan of the number...it looks like 61 to me. Paul

Have you found any more Tulsa pix from the late 20's or early 30's?
