VP_Association Posted February 26, 2012 Share #1 Posted February 26, 2012 A good friend recently died and left me his old USN G-1 flight jacket. He was a WW2 veteran and an active duty reserve stationkeeper based at NAS Squantum, Massachusetts between 1946 and 1953. His jacket has this terrific patch sewn on it: The patch is a little over 6 inches in diameter and is made of chennille. If you're interested in the history and heritage of NAS Squantum or its successor, NAS South Weymouth, check out the ANA Patriot Squadron and Shea Field Naval Aviation Historical Museum at http://www.anapatriotsquadron.org . Jeffro Posted February 26, 2012 Share #2 Posted February 26, 2012 Sorry to hear about your friend. Nice patch. Thanks for sharing it. Is that the only patch sewn on the jacket? Jeffro
lewis505 Posted February 26, 2012 Share #3 Posted February 26, 2012 My dad used to tell me stories about NAS Squantum when I was a kid growing up in Norwood, MA - awesome patch!
VirtualMariner Posted February 26, 2012 Share #4 Posted February 26, 2012 I'm sorry about the loss of your friend. It's good, though, that someone appreciative of its value is able to take custody of these small pieces of history. This is a very cool patch. The Coast Guard Air Station Salem patch is very similar to this. Would love to a picture of the whole jacket, or any other patches that might be on there. Thanks for sharing.
