devildog34 Posted February 22, 2012 Share #3 Posted February 22, 2012 Bastard patch as it was known was worn well into 1944 but when the 6th Regiment were coming home from Hawaii after Tarawa it was removed. These were worn in New Zealand after Guadalcanal in 1943. My grandfather still has the one he wore while with the 6th Marines from '42- early '44. He took his off when he got back to Camp Elliot from Hawaii after Tarawa.
patches Posted February 22, 2012 Share #4 Posted February 22, 2012 Was there any official reason why the snake patch was droped in favor of the hand on torch one?
uplandmod Posted February 22, 2012 Share #5 Posted February 22, 2012 Was there any official reason why the snake patch was droped in favor of the hand on torch one? Of what I read is that it just looked to much like the 1st Marine Division patch. Leonardo
