0bx Posted February 18, 2012 Share #1 Posted February 18, 2012 The 13th Naval Mobile Construction Battalion(CB) was known as the "Lucky 13" and adopted the "Black Cat" logo. However, the patch which has a black cat pushing a crate of TNT is attributed to or identified as the 13th Naval Special Construction Batallion which is a completely different unit. Does anyone have any info regarding this patch and which unit it represents? Any info appreciated. -Fritz
VirtualMariner Posted February 18, 2012 Share #2 Posted February 18, 2012 This link will take you to a history of the 13th Special Naval Construction Battalion. Scroll down and you will see what appears to be the patch you've described, as well as another depiction of the cat with TNT. http://www.history.navy.mil/museums/seabee...s/13%20SNCB.pdf This link will take you to a history of the 13th Naval Mobile Construction Battalion. There are not any patch pictures, or very good logo shots, but scroll down to the bottom and you'll see one of 13th NMCB's aircraft with their black cat logo painted on as nose art. http://www.history.navy.mil/museums/seabee...B/013%20NCB.pdf You may have already found this stuff, but hope it helps. Now for the real question...do you have either patch?

Now for the real question...do you have either patch? Thanks for the information VirtualMariner. I had in fact found the two histories you referred to as well as the pictures of the cat with the TNT. However, I had totally missed the black cat logo nose art. I recently purchased the white patch with the black border, but have not received it yet. I don't think I have ever seen this patch in a collection or at a show, etc. but I know I've seen a picture of one in a publication of some kind? At any rate, it doesn't seem to be a real common patch. I will scan the patch and add to this thread when I receive it. -Fritz
0bx Posted February 27, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted February 27, 2012 Here is the actual patch. It is in great condition except for the staple holes at top and bottom. Is anyone familiar with this patch? There is a picture of this patch in the Jan-Mar 2012 Trading Post, pg 43. -Fritz
