River Patrol Posted December 20, 2007 Share #1 Posted December 20, 2007 I have heard these types of patches exist but I'm not sure this one is real, however, the backing material matches a Mohawk scroll I have from late Vietnam war era. Any thoughts?
vintageproductions Posted December 20, 2007 Share #2 Posted December 20, 2007 Steve-This is very similar to one we got right off of a jungle jacket years ago. Same stitch, same colors, everything. I believe we sold it to the Keith & Hunter Moyer. You may want to check with them. I think they are now memebers here on the forum.
River Patrol Posted December 21, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted December 21, 2007 Bob, Thanks for taking the time to look at this. You have way more experience with these esoteric patches than me. I had a good feeling about this patch eventhough it was sold to me as a reproduction. Since I knew that my Mohawk scroll was correct, I remembered the weird backing on it. When I got home to check, they matched exactly. But the colors on the front of the patch....geeze, pink and baby blue!
gwb123 Posted December 21, 2007 Share #4 Posted December 21, 2007 Here's a hand embroidered example from Cecil Smyth's book on Riverine insignia. Note in the description he states the same colors you are seeing on your example. For anyone who is looking for a copy of this book, it is available from ASMIC-PUBS as eBay item 230186245825.
