All the Camillus knives in this thread seem to have a 6" blade. However, I have recently seen the same type with a longer blade. Has anyone seen one of these? Are they rare?

The late 1950s to early 1960's were mostly the 6" bladed survival knives. Everything I've seen that were made after 1962 were 5" blades.

I'm sure our resident experts will jump in on this conversation. BTW, I have two survival knives with no dates that have 6" blades.

Happy New Year!

Thanks for the clarification on the blade length, I wasn't sure as I don't have one in my possession to refer to.

What is the value on a six inch blade. I have an opportunity to buy one, but would like a ball park figure to go by.

Stony: Condition is everything.

A: Is the blade & the grip in good condition?

B: Does it have the original sheath?

C: Is the sheath in good condition?

D: If yes to all of the above, then it would be in the $70 to $100 range.

If not, you need to subtract from the price depending upon the number of negatives.

If you can, send a picture of the knife and sheath and we'll see what feedback the experts can provide.

Good Luck! Danny

No sheath, it's part of a survival vest along with the parachute knife made by Camillus. The vest is not marked and is probably theater made or modified.

Hi,

here's my 6 inch Camillus knife, it has a peened pommel and 'CAMILLUS' on the ricasso indicating that it was produced between 1960 and 1962.

cheers, John

I am confused about what I originally believed to be a USAF pilots survival knife. In my experience the Camillus military knives have been marked Camillus U. S. With a date.

This knife that I have is marked Camillus N.Y. with no date. Even more confusing to me is the starburst pattern on the butt of the knife. Im not sure if that is intentional or not.

Is this a commercial version?

Can anybody clear this up for me?

Hi, you are not wrong about the date but they started dating in 1967 the ones produced before that were marked as yours is. you have an early Camillus JPK, This is not a commercial knife. The starburst is probably where the tang was peened to hold everything together, can't say more without a picture of the starburst. hope this helps

That is a typical(earlier) issue JPK as stated having marks prior to the dated versions. The scabbard is aslo od the earlier type without the metal backing plate. Thanks for posting.

Here are my 2 examples.

Top is an unmarked 5" version. I think the top of the guard was removed to fit in the sheath.

The bottom is a 6" early version, I think. (Based on reading this thread.) Just located yesterday.

In looking at John's examples at http://www.militaryfightingknives.com/#John's%20Knives , this also has the earlier sheath with the low keeper strap.

Papas-Toybox

I've ran into several of the "Commercial Japan" models when purchasing knives from veterans. AS has been stated, many were PX purchases by military personnel who didn't have access to standard issue knives.

A new one for the collection, no photos yet.

5 Camillus blade marked Camillus / New York /USA.

The sheath has the metal backing that is painted gold, along with the guard and pommel.

Camillus is in script.

Any help is appreciated, books are still somewhere in the garage.
