This Sergeant rank insignia was in with a group of items that belonged to a First Special Service Force and 474th Infantry Regiment soldier. Do you know if is U.S. or in-country made? If in-country made, would you happen to know which country? Thank you.

These are U.S. made , one of several types used during WWII and after, they are woven rayon, these types in theory were to worn only on the EM khaki twill shirt, but were in practice seen on every upper garment in the inventory of the Army. Conversely, while this rayon type could be seen worn on the many types of shirts, coats, and jackets, the other types to wit the ODs on black wool in their various styles where not worn on Khaki shirts. The only types that could be seen on the Khaki EM shirts would be this type that you have here, and the OD on Khaki twill types, which believe it or not where sometimes worn on OD wool items, and field items, though not as one would suppose on the 4 pocket Class A tunics and the later IKE jackets. Though the wearing of the OD on khaki twill ranks on Wool or Field jackets, M41/M43 field jackets, Jump jackets, mackinaws, and even HBTs where rare. Likewise if a GI would some how be seen with a OD on wool rank insignia on his Khaki shirt, this would be an even rarer sight.
