Bearmon Posted January 18, 2012 #1 Posted January 18, 2012 I like the construction but the center color has me thrown, it should be more of a royal blue, could it be faded? Some of the patches looked good others not so good, do you buy when there is a mix of good and bad for sale from the same seller?
Bearmon Posted January 18, 2012 Author #2 Posted January 18, 2012 The reverse looks kind of good too!
all-bull Posted January 18, 2012 #3 Posted January 18, 2012 That's an odd one for sure. I don't know if I have ever seen a machine made patch with the border folded over, but I don't know if that tells anything. But don't let the "more fakes vs. real" thing fool you. I'm sure you will find that some sellers who don't specialize in VN patches will have more fakes than good, and some sellers will have more good ones than fakes. Just use your judgement and knowledge. Some of my better pieces I have picked out from sellers who had almost nothing but fakes.
itshistory Posted January 18, 2012 #4 Posted January 18, 2012 Machine made patches with the edge folded over are not rare. And they come in many variations. IH
itshistory Posted January 18, 2012 #5 Posted January 18, 2012 I could go on but I think the point is made. IH
River Patrol Posted January 18, 2012 #6 Posted January 18, 2012 This is not a variation I've seen before, but I like what I see! It has all the attributes I would want in a real patch...so for me it's a good one. As itshistory has pointed out, having folded edges on a machine made patch is not impossible.
Bearmon Posted January 18, 2012 Author #7 Posted January 18, 2012 well then I'm kicking myself, I let the color scare me away, it went for 20 bucks.....
all-bull Posted January 18, 2012 #9 Posted January 18, 2012 Sorry I meant to put a Cecil type machine made patch which is what bearmons appears to Be with the cheesecloth type back. I know other style machine made ones had borders folded over but the style he posted made it unusual to me. Great patches IH.
River Patrol Posted January 19, 2012 #10 Posted January 19, 2012 ......and the caveat is always: a complete assessment of the patch is better done in hand! This patch may still turn out to be a repro.
