Question for Patton sabers

I recently purchased a 1918-dated LF&C M1913 with serial number 2186. Unfortunately it has no scabbard. Earlier in this thread it was said LF&C stopped using serial numbers at #4000. Is this an exact number, i.e. did the company make a positive decision they would number the blads up to the number 4000 and then stop with sword 4001, or is 4000 just the estimated terminal number based the spectrum of numbers of which we are aware?

It's this. The omission of serial numbers was initiated immediately upon approval of the request.

Nice example, congrats!

The thread has not been active in a while but here's my contribution if data is still needed for the project.

My Pattons are as follows::
1913 SN - 3913 Type 3 Scabbard
1914 SN - 13261 No Scabbard
1914 SN - 14816 No Scabbard
1918 LF&C SN 3508 Type 3 Scabbard. The blade was either badly bent or broken and then cut-off to about 23-1/4". The last 1-1/4" has a slight "wave" to it.
1918 LF&C No serial number Type 3 Scabbard

Thanks! I have #14816 as being up on Ebay in October 2007, and #18850 was on Ebay in December 2017, presumably you bought it. The others are new to me, much appreciated.

I both of them (14816 and 18850) off ebay. Actually, all except the 1913 M1913, which was my first one, were acquired via ebay.

I found the 1913 in an old antique store out in Boerne TX (west of San Antonio) back in 1985 while I was a Navy SWO assigned for shore duty at Kelly AFB.
