reschenk Posted September 15, 2016 Share #53 Posted September 15, 2016 This one is cut down and in miserable condition, but another serial number. Looks like 1914 and 15541. From eBayhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/WWI-US-ARMY-MODEL-1914-PATTON-CAVALRY-SABER-SWORD-DATED-1914-SERIAL-15541/351833955775?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3D2b287f0a95ad4d8b9abcd9dfe982d1fa%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D182281736334

reschenk Posted June 11, 2017 Share #55 Posted June 11, 2017 I recently purchased a 1918-dated LF&C M1913 with serial number 2186. Unfortunately it has no scabbard. Earlier in this thread it was said LF&C stopped using serial numbers at #4000. Is this an exact number, i.e. did the company make a positive decision they would number the blads up to the number 4000 and then stop with sword 4001, or is 4000 just the estimated terminal number based the spectrum of numbers of which we are aware? Spathologist Posted June 14, 2017 Share #56 Posted June 14, 2017 or is 4000 just the estimated terminal number based the spectrum of numbers of which we are aware? It's this. The omission of serial numbers was initiated immediately upon approval of the request. Nice example, congrats!
reschenk Posted June 14, 2017 Share #57 Posted June 14, 2017 I expected that would be the answer. What is the highest serial number members have encountered?
zzyzzogeton Posted February 19, 2019 Share #58 Posted February 19, 2019 The thread has not been active in a while but here's my contribution if data is still needed for the project. My Pattons are as follows:: 1913 SN - 3913 Type 3 Scabbard 1914 SN - 13261 No Scabbard 1914 SN - 14816 No Scabbard 1918 LF&C SN 3508 Type 3 Scabbard. The blade was either badly bent or broken and then cut-off to about 23-1/4". The last 1-1/4" has a slight "wave" to it. 1918 LF&C No serial number Type 3 Scabbard

Spathologist Posted February 20, 2019 Share #60 Posted February 20, 2019 Thanks! I have #14816 as being up on Ebay in October 2007, and #18850 was on Ebay in December 2017, presumably you bought it. The others are new to me, much appreciated.
zzyzzogeton Posted February 21, 2019 Share #61 Posted February 21, 2019 I both of them (14816 and 18850) off ebay. Actually, all except the 1913 M1913, which was my first one, were acquired via ebay. I found the 1913 in an old antique store out in Boerne TX (west of San Antonio) back in 1985 while I was a Navy SWO assigned for shore duty at Kelly AFB. blademan Posted January 16, 2022 Share #69 Posted January 16, 2022 I know I'm late to this thread, but thought I would provide info on my early patton saber. I'll dig it out and post pictures when I get a chance. SA 1913 dated, serial number "83",no scabbard, unit numbers stamped on the guard. I suspect this could have been issued in the original trials? Yes, it certainly sounds like one of the 200 test sabers. #83 is new to me, pictures and specifics on the unit marking would be very greatly appreciated! blademan Posted January 17, 2022 Share #74 Posted January 17, 2022 The serial number is "62" instead of as previously indicated. Note stamped numbers next to serial number and on guard. Assuming they see issue marks to the units evaluating the first 200. Came to me with no scabbard. Assume it was issued with a tent pole scabbard. Hope this helps.
