T/Sgt.Charles B.Potter

Birth:30 May,1912

From:Waynesboro City,VA.

Co.C,334th inf.regt.,84th Div.

KIA:23 Feb.1945 Roer River Crossing

 

 

 

On 7 Feb.1945 the 84th Division assumed the responsibility on the Roer River between Linnich and Himrerich.they trained for a river crossing.Twelve men from Co.C 334th inf.regt. of the 84th attempted the Roer River crossing on 23 Feb.,1945 in their assault boat and were subjected to enemy machine gun fire that injured the men and sank the craft.Records indicate Five were wounded,they were rescued and hospitalized and later returned to duty.T/Sg.Charles B.Potter remains were recovered along the Roer River on 28 April,1947,evacuated to USMC Margrataten,Holand,where identification was verified.R.I.P.T/Sgt.Potter

Great medal group! Himmerich and Linnich is not really far from where I live.

We used to go to Himmerich sometimes to visit a club there. Small world
