gwb123 Posted January 2, 2012 Share #8 Posted January 2, 2012 You know... looking at your photos, I think I have passed up one or two over the years thinking they were a civilian knock off, or made in Australia etc. Learn something new everyday! VMI88 Posted January 3, 2012 Share #11 Posted January 3, 2012 Ed, Thanks for posting these -- I never knew CISO provided o.g. boonies. Were they intended for use by indigenous troops? I have a very similar hat that I found with a group of items that belonged to a Seabee (the whole thread is located at http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...showtopic=82836). The main difference with mine is that it doesn't have the foliage band and it does have a chinstrap. The hat is pictured below alongside a tiger boonie from the same grouping: Note that the crown is done in cloth from a different dye lot. It also has the number "7" -- presumably the size -- stamped in red ink on the brim.
VMI88 Posted January 3, 2012 Share #12 Posted January 3, 2012 Here's the interior view of the same two hats: Note the chinstrap, which your hats don't seem to have. When I found these hats I just assumed the o.g. one was a locally-made hat but now I'm wondering if it's not a variant of the ones you've posted.
