TomcatPC Posted January 1, 2012 #1 Posted January 1, 2012 Hello Here is the other Experimental Helmet that one of my Great uncle's returned from the First World War with in his possession. Thanks Mark
TomcatPC Posted January 1, 2012 Author #6 Posted January 1, 2012 Once again, shredded remains of what once a liner, also remains of decades old masking tape that once read something like "this helmet belongs to...".
m1ashooter Posted January 1, 2012 #10 Posted January 1, 2012 I'm in awe. Make sure you get these insured.
BOLO Posted January 1, 2012 #11 Posted January 1, 2012 I like this one the best, it has such a midieval look , like a knight's armor
37thguy Posted January 1, 2012 #12 Posted January 1, 2012 Hey Mark Great helmet. This one is my favorite out of all of the experimentals.

Red Devil Posted January 1, 2012 #18 Posted January 1, 2012 Great helmet!! Can't imagine I'd enjoy the narrow eye slits in the heat of combat  -Johannes
37thguy Posted January 1, 2012 #19 Posted January 1, 2012 Great helmet!! Can't imagine I'd enjoy the narrow eye slits in the heat of combat  -Johannes As a machine gunner they wouldn't have been too bad as you just sat there firing it. Definately NOT an offensive helmet!
ETO Posted January 1, 2012 #20 Posted January 1, 2012 Just a guess based on some I have seen for sale, is in the $5k range! Maybe more as this one is so complete! Chaaaaaaching! Greetings : The last one I saw listed was at $9500.00....finally sold for $8000.00. Not near as good as this one. AWESOME FIND :w00t: ...CONGRATS! Regards Zeke
Dave Posted January 1, 2012 #21 Posted January 1, 2012 Looks like Mark just got himself a SWEET collection! Good job man!
TomcatPC Posted January 1, 2012 Author #22 Posted January 1, 2012 I took a look at the link that posted, plus looking at a few more photos somewhere online. By the photos of the others I have seen, I get the impression there was some variation in the liners and chin straps? The strap buckles I have seen in the photos sort of resemble the buckles I have seen on the WWII era M1 Helmet, whilst the buckles on mine look a lot different...not that is a big deal to me. I'm just grateful to have these passed on to me. Thank you Uncle!! Mark
Paul Reijnders Posted January 1, 2012 #23 Posted January 1, 2012 Hello Mark ; The No.8 is a very atractive collectors piece and not easy to find in complete and original condition. The one you show us here has not the original helmet chinstraps and not the original liner , sorry Buy anyway , it's a great helmet and you can be happy you have one , congrats Regards , Paul
m1ashooter Posted January 1, 2012 #24 Posted January 1, 2012 What I also find interesting is how the later M1 has some of the same lines.
37thguy Posted January 1, 2012 #25 Posted January 1, 2012 The era of the experimental is a fascinating trip in the evolution of getting from the Brodie 1917 to the M-1 as we know it.
