hink441 Posted December 28, 2011 #1 Posted December 28, 2011 Here are some Navy ship patches I recently acquired. I really like the USS Pawcatuck patch. Thanks for looking. Chris
VirtualMariner Posted December 29, 2011 #2 Posted December 29, 2011 Nice group of patches. I agree, that Pawcutuck is pretty cool. I'm also reminded that I need a Saratoga rocker, myself. You know, the NAES Lakehurst is cool, too, because they've changed the name of that base. It's now yet another of these "Joint Bases" that have become annoyingly common (annoying to me, anyway). It's now Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. That just doesn't have much of a ring to me, not to mention all this consolidation undermines the history and traditions of the respective branches.
hink441 Posted December 29, 2011 Author #3 Posted December 29, 2011 Yeah the joint bases are kinda strange. Here in Tidewater we now have Joint Little Creek and Fort Story command. Just rolls off the tongue doesn't it ???
Bearmon Posted December 29, 2011 #4 Posted December 29, 2011 I used to buy all my smokes at Fort Story they were about two bucks cheaper for a carton and they took coupons...

VirtualMariner Posted December 29, 2011 #6 Posted December 29, 2011 I used to buy all my smokes at Fort Story they were about two bucks cheaper for a carton and they took coupons... Yeah, me too. I was thinking the same thing when I read your post! Spent quite a bit of time at Little Creek, too, though I was stationed over at NOB. Aside from attending schools like NGFS and CIC Boat Control there, we used to hang out on Little Creek to drink beer and watch the amphib softball league games.
hink441 Posted December 29, 2011 Author #7 Posted December 29, 2011 They have also combined NAS Oceana and Dam Neck bases.
VirtualMariner Posted December 29, 2011 #8 Posted December 29, 2011 They have also combined NAS Oceana and Dam Neck bases. Oh, I forgot about that one. Not quite the same as the joint base concept, but certainly more consolidation. I also understand that my alma mater, OS "A" School, has been moved from Dam Neck to Great Lakes. There is no end to the injustices to my sensibilities. :pinch:
