I just acquired this flight helmet. Data tag reads Experimental Model Combination head covering for use with pneumolator. P-270-H2 1943. Pioneer Products Division, General Wlectric Company, Bridgeport Connectict. I have never seen anything like it and would appreciate some help. Thanks

Apparently the pneumolator was a device that provided intermittent pressurized breathing air - but they found it increased the chance of hyperventilation at altitude.

I'd bet this helmet was only used for aviation medicine experiments. GE also made the pneumolator in addition to this helmet.

I've yet to check but I'm pretty sure these aren't in Sweeting's book. Possibly a "lab only" item? BTW...do those B8 goggles have an OD rubber frame?!

Hi

Thanks for the reply, I had found that reference about the pneumolator, nothing as to an actual helmet. Ear cups and receivers are all standard period as are the goggles.

Beginning to think that it was lab only, but would sure like to find a reference pic. of one. Goggles are darkish green gray.

neat find, looks almost like a leather ANH15 flight helmet.
