8TH Air Force POWs Release Germany 1945

Recommended Posts

Great photo! And a great piece of history.

Interesting how the women are referrred to as "Red Cross Girls" instead of volunteers or something more formal.

Thanks for posting this photo. That's William E. Moreland,RWG on the 2nd Lt. Mark Wilson crew, 100th BG, 349th BS, Crew went down on 5 June,1944 BOULOGNE and nice to see Moreland. Have little on him after he went down.

Their crew page is here http://www.100thbg.com/mainpages/crews/crews3/wilson.htm

They normally flew SHILAYLEE but were on a new ship when they went down.

Thanks for posting the crew page.

Is that a giant Red Cross banner on the roof?

This photo is part of a group of photos from an estate sale. The owner who was moving had been a custom designer for Warner Bros. These were used in the making of the WWII movie 'Force Of Arms' from 1951. This was the only Aircraft & Aviation photo I'll post the rest in Latest Fines & Acquisitions. There's some great original WWII photo's - Dec 7 Pearl Harbor, POW's in France & Germany. Iran....
