A very rare case when something US-made of WWII era was not copied by the Russkies.

:)

No...they both copied Sir Frank Whittle's concept! ;)

This is true. Captured German swept-wing technology provided both US / USSR with the necessary aerodynamics needed for high performance jet-propelled flight. The infamous MiG 15 was a combination of the former and a derivation of the British jet engine.

Ian, have you ever see photos of the dirty delapidated buildings that Whittle worked in to design and build the first jet engine, it wouldn't be allowed today by the health and safety brigade.

I wonder what wonderful inventions we are missing due to overbearing rules and regulations. In these retched economic times it's so damn easy for businesses to go broke, but not easy to start up a business from broke....

The worlds current Asian powerhouse that is being built is because they are working in the conditions the western world was doing so a hundred years ago.

A very valid point Ken...poor conditions for many and much lower wages. To get back to your original point, many of the world's most significant inventions originated with men with pencils and slide rules in a shed!

Fortunately P-59 did not become a kind of B-29 cloned to the form of Soviet Tu-4.
