Adam R Posted December 7, 2013 #51 Posted December 7, 2013 A group to Edward William Lincoln Schleter who served on the USS Tennessee from 1934 to 1946. I acquired his medals in the 1980s and then contacted his stepdaughter who gave me the photos and paperwork.
aerialbridge Posted December 7, 2013 #52 Posted December 7, 2013 USS Nevada, berthed astern of USS Arizona. In 1944 this sailor earned his wings as an enlisted Naval Aviation Pilot (NAP) and retired in 1969 as a lieutenant commander after 29 years continuous service over three wars. While I don't own the rest of his probable large GCM group, he left us all a legacy of two articles he wrote that recall his personal experiences on USS Nevada on that day of great infamy and greater courage. His story for future reference- http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/195498-there-at-the-attack-pearl-harbor-to-vietnam-nap-and-flew-just-about-everything-with-a-prop-or-rotor/ Kurt, a fine tribute post you've created to the Navy men in harm's way at Pearl Harbor in 1941. And thanks for sharing your tremendous collection of Pearl Harbor Navy GCMs.
1SG_1st_Cav Posted May 16, 2014 #54 Posted May 16, 2014 Kurt: This is an absolutely awesome collection! You've captured some amazing history and you are to be highly commended for that! Thanks ~ Danny
HistoryNut Posted May 16, 2014 #55 Posted May 16, 2014 Simply amazing collection! Thank you for sharing.
mattsmilitary Posted May 17, 2014 #56 Posted May 17, 2014 Great groupings. Simply amazing. Sent from my SCH-S738C using Tapatalk
KASTAUFFER Posted November 30, 2014 Author #57 Posted November 30, 2014 With the anniversary right around the corner, I thought I would bring this back up with more examples: USS Whitney
KASTAUFFER Posted November 30, 2014 Author #63 Posted November 30, 2014 HQ 14th Naval District Scarce 1942 dated hand engraved example. The issuance of GCMs was stopped in early 1942 for the duration of the war, so finding 1942 dated medals that are hand engraved is hard to do.
KASTAUFFER Posted November 30, 2014 Author #64 Posted November 30, 2014 While technically not a medal, I thought I would add this too:
Wharfmaster Posted December 27, 2014 #66 Posted December 27, 2014 The USS Helm was underway and most active during the Pearl Harbor attack. Nice find. W
KASTAUFFER Posted December 4, 2015 Author #67 Posted December 4, 2015 Another year has gone by so it is time to add more Pearl Harbor survivor Good Conduct Medals to this thread. First one up is one to the USS ST. LOUIS. Id like to thank member DAVE for this one!
KASTAUFFER Posted December 5, 2015 Author #73 Posted December 5, 2015 Back to the top in commemoration of the 74th Anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack.
