36-tex Posted November 29, 2011 Share #1 Posted November 29, 2011 These were picked up recently. I thought they were late 19th century U.S. Army infantry chevrons, but have had someone suggest they are early USMC chevrons. So I am looking for confirmation of what they are. tsakers85 Posted November 29, 2011 Share #3 Posted November 29, 2011 Infantry wore white from 1885 to 1889 but I'm not sure if these are those.
GIl Sanow Posted November 29, 2011 Share #4 Posted November 29, 2011 I am pretty sure these are late 1880's /early 1900's USMC. G
36-tex Posted November 29, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted November 29, 2011 I am pretty sure these are late 1880's /early 1900's USMC. G Gil, do you have any reference for this? All I can find for the USMC is that they wore the gold/yellow chevrons.
Dirk Posted November 29, 2011 Share #6 Posted November 29, 2011 I agree with Gil....I think they are Marine, worn on the white fatigue uniform prior to receiving Khakis within the dates Gil stated.
GIl Sanow Posted November 29, 2011 Share #7 Posted November 29, 2011 Just past experience seeing coats ID'd as USMC in that period. G
RustyCanteen Posted November 29, 2011 Share #8 Posted November 29, 2011 And I agree with Gil and Dirk, they appear to be the same as mentioned. RC

CUBUSMC Posted November 29, 2011 Share #10 Posted November 29, 2011 They are Marine Corps chevrons from approx the turn of the century. (not sure on exact dates) The Marine Corps use to wear a Tan field uniform for work and field and that is what these are. Corporal and Sergeant stripes are relatively common, but it is much harder to find the higher ranks in this color. Hope that helps - Jeff
Jason G Posted November 29, 2011 Share #11 Posted November 29, 2011 Yep, concur on USMC and the time period. These do show up on ebay from time to time but as stated, the higher ranks are very hard to come by.
