WWI Army Engineer Pack Box No 5B

Hello Everyone,

Here is a World War I Engineer or Pioneer equipment carrier I recently found. The original equipment inventory list is attached to the inside of lid and provides some interesting details. The original stenciling is present.

Stenciled on the lid of the box in black is the following:

"ENGINEER PACK BOX NO 5B"

"CO. C"

"112 U. S. ENG."

During the Great World the 112th Engineer Regiment was part of the 37th Infantry Division. It was federalized in August 1917 as a National Guard Division from Ohio. The Buckeye Division went overseas in June 1918 and earned battle clasps for YPRES-LYS and MEUSE-ARGONNE, as well the DEFENSIVE SECTOR clasp.

Does anyone know anything more about this thing? Does anyone collect this type of field equipment? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Semper Fi,

Bruce Linz

I collect Pack items. Your box is the first one of its type that I have seen. Can you post a larger picture of the label inside of the lid? I'm curious as to what went inside of your box.
