In the current issue of "Fortitudine", Vol. 36, No.2, 2011 (for those who are unfamiliar, this publication is published the History Division USMC) has a SUPERIOR 12 page article regarding of "Tomb of the Unknown Solider" and SUBERLY astonishing number of Official USMC photo's documenting the events starting with The French Minister of Pensions, André Maginot, pins the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor, France’s highest decoration, upon the casket of the Unknown Soldier in Le Havre, France, on 25 October 1921.

Although the idea of honoring the unknown war dead of World War I originated in Europe, America embraced the idea and on 4 March 1921, the United States Congress approved, by public resolution, the burial of an unknown American soldier in the plaza of the new Memorial Amphitheater in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
