checkit Posted October 16, 2011 Share #1 Posted October 16, 2011 I have never heard of a veteran's organization specifically for those who served on the Mexican Border, and then I stumbled on this hat at an estate sale. Walter Mengel was a 1st Sgt. in the First Iowa Field Artillery, according to a 1918 roster, which jibes with this hat. The Iowa Briagade trained at Camp Dodge and then was deployed at the Mexican Border in 1916. I believe this hat represents a veteran in Battery B, 1st Iowa Field Artillery.
