Johan Willaert Posted October 12, 2011 #1 Posted October 12, 2011 I'm looking for more info about the 2675th Regt which was part of the Allied Control Commission in Italy at the end and right after WW2. Some googling revealed that the unit was involved in local aid and civilian-military co-operations but the amount of info was rather poor.... Does anyone have more??? Especially about the regiment? Thanks, Johan
ehrentitle Posted October 23, 2011 #3 Posted October 23, 2011 There was an episode of the US Public TV series History Detectives that aired in the Spring that mentions the 2675th in a story about a dagger that was supposed to have belonged to Mussolini. Here is the transcript: http://www-tc.pbs.org/opb/historydetective.../709_dagger.pdf
ehrentitle Posted October 23, 2011 #4 Posted October 23, 2011 Johan, Here is the entry for this unit in Department of the Army Pamphlet 672-1 Unit Citation and Campaign Participation Credit Register. The campaigns are: 29 - Naples-Foggia (Ground), 31- North Apennines, 33 - Po Valley, 35 - Rome-Arno.

Navybean Posted February 3, 2023 #10 Posted February 3, 2023 Kind of interesting topic. I just picked up a bronze star grouping with a named bronze star medal and a New York Conspicuous Cross Medal. Both medals are named to an HSC Piper Sergent assigned to the 2675th Regiment. The NY Cross is named and number to Piper. Not really clear on what the what the 2675th did during the war.

In one of his letters, he wrote that he was sad when he found out that he had lost the “magic dagger” (his words) in Germany 1945 when Marlene Dietrich (USO’s glamour girl) asked to see it during a dinner with officers. Now I wonder if it was the dagger. edit: updated link to the transcript above. https://www.pbs.org/www-tc.pbs.org/opb/historydetectives/static/media/transcripts/2011-05-21/709_dagger.pdf

He spoke Italian so he could work directly with townspeople when they were putting things back together.
