Antique Collectible Pencel Graphite Drawing!

Great war depictation!

Battle at Belleau Woods!

American Marines stop a kaiser on its way to paris!

 

It is in Excellent Overall Condition!

 

Everytime you look at this picture you see something different!

Very unique picture done by penicl!

Signed C.E. Holland!

Measures 31 x 19 inches the picture itself!

The frame measures 34 x 32 inches!

 

The small paper says it was painted by F.E. Shoonover for ladies home journal! Believe it was redone by C.E. Holland!

Believe it dates from the 1930s.

 

Very detailed and interesting picture!

My understanding is F.E. Schoonover is the original artist of the painting (he is the son of a Marine Colonel as well) and its is the hands of the Marine Corps Museum. Holland is the illustrator who did the B&W sketch show here for the magazine. It appears to be his original pencil work.

I think Holland just copied his drawing from the magazine itself upon rereading and looking at the original post.

The description in the frame is the same as on my copy

Interesting about the artist. I did not realize who was the artist of the original painting. As you said, it will be interesting to watch this auction.

 

Is the original painting done by Schoonover a B&W sketch as well?

9 years later. I grabbed this at a auction this month and I believe it's the same one reframed. Description was identical and after research I think only one was done.  Enjoy.
