I found a little more information on PFC Laure. She enlisted in the USMCWR in December 1943 and trained at Camp Lejeune. She then trained as an Aviation Machinist in Norman, Oklahoma with a follow on assignment to MCAS El Toro.

To read what her service was like, in the link below, you can read the obituary of another woman Marine who served as an Aviation Machinist at El Toro during the war. In March 1945, she married Robert Schmidt at Victorville Army Air Base.

Nice find, good job tracking down the marrige stuff. Was she married during the war or after?

Thanks for the compliment! She was married in March of 1945.

BTW, did anyone notice that she only has one chevron? I am assuming that she had to remove the right sleeve chevron in order to make room for the diamond.

Well, it looks like my assumption is wrong! Ricardo had an interesting thread regarding the wearing of only one chevron by the Marines during WWII. It was a war economy measure and looks like it might have been continued into 1944.

Here's a thread on this practice: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...710&hl=Usmc
