Garandy Posted September 25, 2011 Share #1 Posted September 25, 2011 The U.S., and post WW2 National Defense bar I know, what about the 8, with crossed cannons, and orange/blue bar?
Sabrejet Posted September 25, 2011 Share #2 Posted September 25, 2011 Orange/Blue = Air Medal. Crossed cannon = officers' Coastal Arty collar brass.
Medalman90 Posted September 25, 2011 Share #3 Posted September 25, 2011 Can we see the back of the air medal ribbon bar?
J_Andrews Posted September 26, 2011 Share #4 Posted September 26, 2011 The first ribbon is NOT WWII. It is the National Defense Service Ribbon, which was awarded during the "Cold War". Beginning date was? as early as ? 1954, through the VN era. It was NOT awarded for a couple of years, post-VN, but then revived, maybe from Grenada 1983 or Panama 1989 to DESERT SHIELD/STORM in 1990-91. manayunkman Posted September 26, 2011 Share #5 Posted September 26, 2011 The "8" on the Coastal Artillery insignia refers to the eighth battery. M

COOKIEMAN Posted September 26, 2011 Share #7 Posted September 26, 2011 Hmmmmm, I think by the time your Officer's Coast Artillery Branch of Service (BOS) insignia was adopted, the CAC had been redesignated into Regiments. So, this would make your brass an 8th Coast Artillery Regiment insignia. Just to put a fine point on the discussion.
