patches Posted September 23, 2011 Share #4 Posted September 23, 2011 I just picked this Heart up a couple a days ago.He was from Surry Co.,N.C. Cpl.James T.Coe ser#34037534 18th Inf.Regt.1st.Inf.Div. KIA 3 Aug.1943 The Battle for Troina R.I.P. Hi robert another great piece, if I may point out that this would be for a big red one soldier KIA in Sicily,Troina was one the most hardest fought battle in the sicilian campaign, an all out attack by the whole 1st inf div with the 39th inf of the 9th inf div attached failed to take the town, killed, wounded and missing where exceptionally high,Troina was only occupied after the germans withdrew, they to having suffered heavy loses in their defense and repeted counterattacks. The date of 3 aug indicates that coe was killed in the heavy fighting before the major assault the on Troina, this period during the advance to and the initial investment Troina was also one where heavy causalties where suffered.
