Was told by one person they were English , another said they were CBI. Thought an English maker would have some sort of hallmark. Sold my wing collection about 6 years ago as my interest changed.

Hallmarks were only used by the "top" British manufacturers, eg Firmin and Gaunt. The majority bear no marks at all.

The term "Sterling" in relation to the UK pound is purely historical. Its roots date back to Anglo-Saxon times when silver-based coins known as "sterlings"* were minted... (*sterling being a corruption of the ancient Anglo-Saxon name) British currency, just like the USD, is backed by gold reserves...not silver!
