K.Johnson HQ & HQ Company. The small flags are tough to find.I have 3 to Force men and they were all with the 474th.Al Smith told me they wore these on the parkas in Norway.

Ron,

Here is that little display I was working on last time we talked about the FSSF. I finally got the correct oilskin Kiska patch. To be honest, I like the embroidered patch better as far as looks. The only thing I'm not sure about is the Can wings. They are probably '50's era.

You guys have some great stuff here. Thanks for sharing it.

Recently I was able to acquire another 1st Special Service Force piece,so I'm adding it to my original post. This one is nice in that it has been worn.

I have had this patch many years and have showed it to many experts but have not had good answer even from specialists in the 1st Special Service unit. The patch is jacket size and made on silk. What made me think it was related to the unit is the fact it is a Black Devil not Red and has almost identical design as the Christmas menue front page that has been illustrated in the Trading Post and in earlier post showing Riker case with picture and patches by Doyler. Here it is. What are thoughts? Much of the black on the devil has been lost to my carelessness. Mortattachicon.gifBlack_Devil.jpg

I have a few of these patches. Some with red back ground and black devil and some with black back ground and red devil.Picked them up at an old Army-Navy store. Was told then, late 70's, that they were FSSF.I have never seen another till your post and NEVER in a book.So just hear say on the ID.I do have to point out the patches are very thin and fragile.I try not to handle them as they seem to almost fall apart from just holding them.

Here is a mirror patch from Fort Harrison Montana where they trained in the United States. Not only the first one that I found but also the first image that I was able to obtain.

Very cool. Where on earth did you find this?

The letter was found along with Pyke's British passports and other documents. Pyke's son gave the documents to David Lampe who wrote a book about Pike in the 1950's. Lampe past away in Austin Texas several years ago, and this came from his estate.

I posted in a different thread about getting to meet these men at the reunion in Helena this summer. What a great honor it was too shake their hands and say thank you. Here is one of my patches, looks like it was worn out at least was sewn on a uniform.

Bought this patch a while ago and I'm wondering if this is a orginal WW2 First Special Service Force 'Devil's Brigade' shoulder patch. And are there ways to verify its authenticity?
