Just picked up some nice items recently. I really wanted the M43 cover because it was a 1953 dated, seldom encountered "USMC"stamped shovel cover.

Is the 1952 style shovel with pic axe correct for an M43 shovel cover?

I assume so because the next cover to come out was the M56, which is a different design altogether.

Its just that I thought I read somewhere that this type of shovel was a bit too snug for the M43 cover?

Also; is it true that 1952 dated shovels with the pick axe are less seldom encountered?

How about the USMC shovel covers? I though they were only contract made in 1952?

Mine is a Reif produced 1953 dated USMC stamped cover. All other 50's era USMC stamped gear I see is usually dated 1952 (like all my OD shelter halves among other items).

Thoughts anybody? Seems like I picked up a scare coombo??

The USMC stamped shovel cover is made to hold shovel with the pick

Mine did not come with the shovel, but had the pick outline

I also have a 1965 dated pick shovel in a 1944 dated m43 cover and it fits fine

Excellent! So I have a legitimate set. I believe it was you who told me these pick shovels were hard to come by?

50s dated pick shovels are harder to find then WWII an Vietnam shovels but they're not rare And show up on eBay from time to time.
