Russell 1910 Posted November 6, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 6, 2007 Has anyone ever seen service shoes like the ones pictured with a few sets of lacing hooks in place of the grommets? Doesn't look to be a true/original contract item but custom job- either period done or later in life. Then again, never say never...
carl1944 Posted November 6, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 6, 2007 Looks like a custom jib to me. As I recall, WWII German low-cut army boots had the same lacing hooks. Maybe a GI got his boots repaired at a "Ye olde boot shoppe" somewhere in Germany? Best Carl
QED4 Posted November 6, 2007 Share #3 Posted November 6, 2007 They are civilian shoes, civilian and military styles usually parallel each other, just check one of the old Sears Catalogs and you will see pages of this style shoe.
rayg Posted November 6, 2007 Share #4 Posted November 6, 2007 Can you show a photo of the bottoms and are there any contract stamping inside by the ankle and also on the inside sole? Ray
Russell 1910 Posted November 6, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted November 6, 2007 They are currently for sale on ebay. There are more photos on the auction. Don't think there are any photos showing the contract info. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A:IT&ih=
rayg Posted November 7, 2007 Share #6 Posted November 7, 2007 I think they are ok. I've not seen a pair with the hooks before but the bottom soles have the correct US Army stamp and the rest of the construction looks correct so I would rule out private/commerical ones. It may be as the seller says, a early style or as was mentioned earlier, a custom modification. Just my guess, Ray
