1917Corpsman Posted July 31, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 31, 2011 Hello All, Wondering if anyone out there in the reenacting community portrays the mounted service of the United States Marine Corps from 1914 to the late 1930s? Would love to see your photos! I may just get into the mounted service myself since my friend loans me his Percheron for rides. Thanks! Leatherneck72 Posted July 31, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2011 I haven't seen any impressions of "China" era mounted Marines. However, the USMC mounted color guard is HQ'd out of MCLB Barstow, CA. The Marines from MWTC Bridgeport, CA also have a mule string and Marines on horses every year at the Rose parade in Pasadena.

ww2imp Posted August 13, 2011 Share #13 Posted August 13, 2011 Excellent photos!!! Thanks for posting. Interesting to note the use of standard trousers with leggings and field shoes instead of breeches with mounted boots.

Cavdoc83 Posted December 22, 2011 Share #17 Posted December 22, 2011 here is 1943 horse Marine,Hawaii This pic illustrates a point that was made on another forum. The poster related a story from an old Cav trooper who had remarked on the use of M1916 holsters. The vet said that they were made to wear the holsters forward and tie them down in order to keep from beating up the saddle and saddlebags. He said that they could be fined for any damage. The way that this Marine's holster is hanging, I can see how that could be a concern.
