M1 Garand oilers, Switch from Brass to Plastic

When did the army switch from nickel oilers to the plastic type?


Always looking for mint condition WW2 US combat gear, equipment, helmets and uniforms -

Scott Duff's The M1 Garand: WWII, page 289 states that the exact date is unknown but a photo of the plastic case shows in an Ordnance catalog dated 14 May 1943.

The M1 SNL shows them in 1943 but there was really no "switch" as the nickel oilers were issued till supplies were exhausted.Some NG units still had them in the 60s.
