What does C.C.V.U. stand for on a GAR ribbon?

I bought a nice little GAR group today to a Colorado Cavalry member. In there were a couple of ribbons with C.C.V.U. & GAR embossed on them. What does the CCVU stand for?

Thanks in advance,

Bob

Robin-That was my gut instinct also, but I can't find any proof. Most of the searches I did, just pop up those initials on GAR ribbons all in New York and Pennsylvania.

I believe CCVU stands for Chautauqua County Veterans Union. I think that's the right county. It's a NY Veterans group. Most of the members would likely also be GAR members.

I guess that doesn't exactly fit with a Colorado Cavalry group - but it's not unreasonable to believe the original owner was a New Yorker before or after the war.

I agree it's Chautauqua County Veterans' Union: if you look online at the CCVU/GAR ribbons and the old references to the Chautauqua County Veterans' Union, it's the only option.

Thanks guys, that totally makes sense.

But Colorado cavalry would have been so much cooler.
