tarbridge Posted July 21, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 21, 2011 This is the named Southern Cross of Honor and Confederate Badge belonging to Thomas Ham Proctor.He resided in Lincoln Co.North Carolina.He enlisted at age 19,June 22,1861.Mustered in as a Private and was promoted to Sergeant in May,1862-August 1863.Present or accounted for untill wounded in the right hand and arm and captured at Gettysburg,Pa. July 1-5,1863.Right index finger amputated.Confined at Ft.Delaware,De.,untill paroled and exchanged on an unspecified date..Detailed as provost guard in Nov.-Dec.1863.Reduced to Ranks in Nov.1864.Reported absent on detail through Dec.1864.Paroled at Charlotte,N.C. on May 24,1865 He must not have figured out that he engraved his cross upside down till it was too late.Thanks for looking.Robert Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I've seen medals with the engraving upside down but never a S-C like this one. I bet someone was real surprised when they noticed! Thanks for sharing pics of this amazing pair of Confederate medals!
