I have had the uniform for quite a while and just recently obtained the trunk from a friend of his who had kept it since he passed away in 2001. Captain "kappi" as he was known joined the Navy in July of 1943 and went through training at William and Mary college in Virginia. His assignments were as follows: 1943 - Navy CB battalion 147 , Williamsburg, Virginia Nov 43 - Feb 45 - USN Frontier Base, Staten Island, New York Feb 45 - June 46 - USS Tennessee (BB-43) Senior Chaplain - Iwo Jima , Okinawa (Tokyo Bay for surrender and occupation) June 46 - Sept 47 - USS Shenandoah, US Naval Forces Mediterranean (Occupation of Italy) Earned two clasps for his occupation medal Sept 47 - March 48 - US Navy Retraining Command, Mare Island, California April 48 - April 51, US Naval Disciplinary Barracks, Portsmouth, New Hampshire April 51 - October 51 - 2nd Marine Division, FMF, Virginia and Puerto Rico Oct 51 - Aug 53 - Senior Chaplain USS Wisconsin (BB-64) Korea Sept 53 - Sept 55 - USN Retraining Command, Mare Island, CA Oct 55 - Aug 57 - USS Boston (CAG-1) Commissioning Crew Sept 57 - Aug 58 Post Graduate School Notre Dame Sept 58 - Dec 60 - Force Chaplain, Commander Amphibious Force Atlantic Fleet Jan 61 - May 63 - USMC Recruit Depot, Paris Island July 63 - Nov 65 - US Naval Hospital San Diego, CA Nov 65 - Dec 67 - 14th Naval District, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Jan 68 - Feb 71 - 2nd Marine Air Wing, Cherry Point, NC March 71 - July 73 - Naval Air Station Bermuda Aug 73 - May 75 - Great Lakes Regional Medical Center June 1975 retired.
