ikar Posted July 2, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 2, 2011 I flew this one to Bangkok. We fishtailed all the way, even through a thunderstorm. This turned up one day after it lost an engine. A Thai Guard was assigned to it most of the time with orders to fire on anybody attempting to board it who wasn't a crew member or escorted by one. It took a while to dig up another engine. timntex Posted July 3, 2011 Share #3 Posted July 3, 2011 Nice Pictures! Thanks for sharing them with us. I see a old C-47 flying daily from my office... pretty cool stuff! For $1000/hr you can ride in one... lol
12thengr Posted July 3, 2011 Share #4 Posted July 3, 2011 Flew in an old goonie bird from Houston to Ft. Polk for basic training. Noisy old bird, wished I'd a ordered a drink. Dec. 1972
J_Andrews Posted July 3, 2011 Share #5 Posted July 3, 2011 In RVN, 1970-71, I flew several times on Air America C-47/DC-3s and one C-46. The C-47s were scheduled Da Nang-Tan Son Nhut, IIRC every weekday, round trip. The C-46 (overall gray finish with small Air America marks) was cargo-configured and had most of the necessary air-drop gear aboard. Saw another C-46 in polished silver finish, several times, but did not get a ride; someone said its route was to Thailand and back. VNAF and Air Viet Nam flew C-47s for similar "admin" trips.
