48MMS Posted June 14, 2011 #1 Posted June 14, 2011 Was checking out a B-58 Hustler site and found a picture of maintenance personnel wearing the 43rd OMS patch that is most commonly associated with the 43rd at Anderson AFB. This link, http://www.b58hustler.net/b58people09.htm shows this patch was worn at Carswell AFB.
COOKIEMAN Posted June 14, 2011 #2 Posted June 14, 2011 Easy answer is, it was worn at both places. Once a squadron emblem is approved for a unit, they aren't supposed to change the design when they move to another base. Having said that, some where in time, another design 43rd OMS was worn, see attached pix. Perhaps somebody assigned to the unit can pinpoint when each patch was worn.
48MMS Posted June 14, 2011 Author #3 Posted June 14, 2011 There is also a third version, which is similiar to yours, but reads, "Not a tour, a tradition." I understand your point, however the one I posted has to my knowledge always been listed at Anderson, which may be correct, but gave no credit to Carswell. Just like Combat Defense Squadrons, you had them at Thule and Ernest Harmon (4081st & 4082nd) but what about the 4083rd Strategic Wing, did it not have a security attachment?

John, I hate to disagree with your information, The patch with the silver gray border was designed at Carswell and later used at Little Rock after the Wing relocated. On 1 Jan 1970 the 43rd OMS stood down at Little Rock. Four months later it reactivated at Andersen, I spent a lot of time at Andersen between 1970 and 1973 , pulling 4 or 5 Strip Alert while deployed Bullet Shot , Several Large Scale Fighter Deployments (such as 2 Cornet Bengals [Appx 40 Tankers supporting 100+ F+100's), numerous Cornet West (Single, or Several Tankers supporting small Fighter deployments) as well as my 4 Young Tiger / 2 Bullet Shot / & 1 Christmas Help deployments. As a patch collector I obtained a set of 43d patches (SW / OMS /AMS / FMS but could not get a 3d MMS) on my 1st deployment throught Andersen. I was later assigned PCS between 1976 & 1978. The solid blue patch was the on version used at Andersen for the 1970 - 1978 period. Terry L Horstead

The 4082nd Strategic Wing, 4082nd Combat Defense Squadron activated in 1957 and was out of Goose AB, Labrador, Canada. Then changed names in 1966 to the 95th Strategic Wing, 95th Combat Defense Squadron. Then in 1967 changed to the 95th Security Police Squadron, then deactivated in 1976. Mark
