otter42 Posted June 14, 2011 #1 Posted June 14, 2011 Picked these up with UFL 79 patch I posted. Can someone explain the Bully Beef part of this patch? Thanks
19delta-uav Posted June 14, 2011 #2 Posted June 14, 2011 The term "Bully Beef" from what I understand was what the Doughboys called the british canned beef rations they were issued. As you probably know, the U.S. Supply system was lacking during the early days of U.S. involvement in the great war, so we used a lot of items made for other countries. Brodie helmets, Gas masks, and even rations. As I recall the Douguboys hated this canned beef, and called it such because it was tough and stringy. Hope this helps.
easterneagle87 Posted June 14, 2011 #3 Posted June 14, 2011 Could they possibly be the Engineering section for the squadron? Or atleast their nickname? Prime Beef being AF construction engineers.
Johnny Signor Posted June 14, 2011 #4 Posted June 14, 2011 This unit and it's emblem goes back to WW2 era as the 6th Troop Carrier Squadron, you may want to try thier "reunion" page for the WW-2 era unit , they should have a historian that could fill you in on the "Bully Beef" title , it was soemthing to do with the canned meat if memory serves me .
