Hi,

I am looking at buying a 1940's USN Deck hat and wondered what everyone thought about it. I'm not a expert in the Navy section of collecting and would appreciate any help. Thanks!

It's real: they made them in OD and blue. My understanding is that the blue deck hats were from earlier in the war but in about 1943 the Navy changed the deck jacket color from blue to OD so that Navy personnel who went ashore during European landings were not mistaken for Germans.

they seem to be common, I bought two a few months ago at surplus stores for around $6.00 each

I found a navy blue one without a visor, and a olive drab one with a visor

these were also worn by navy deck crews on aircraft carriers and by gun crews aboard ships.
