ww2vault Posted October 19, 2007 #1 Posted October 19, 2007 Hi, I am looking at buying a 1940's USN Deck hat and wondered what everyone thought about it. I'm not a expert in the Navy section of collecting and would appreciate any help. Thanks! - Jeff

My understanding is that the blue deck hats were from earlier in the war but in about 1943 the Navy changed the deck jacket color from blue to OD so that Navy personnel who went ashore during European landings were not mistaken for Germans.
MAS36 Posted October 20, 2007 #3 Posted October 20, 2007 they seem to be common, I bought two a few months ago at surplus stores for around $6.00 each I found a navy blue one without a visor, and a olive drab one with a visor these were also worn by navy deck crews on aircraft carriers and by gun crews aboard ships.
