Dating un-dated entrenching gear

As the title says is there a good way to fix a date on an item of gear that is not dated? Things like shovels and pick mattoxs. What are things that identify a WWI "T" handle shovel from a WWII one? How about a pick head. Is there a way to identify a time frame of service for a pick head that is not dated but clearly marked with a US?

Here are the T handles I have in question for age. The pick head I have not taken a photo of yet.

And the covers for them. The covers were purchased separately.

As thumb rule WWI items dont have the year stamped nor manufacturer, but only the big US, while WWII do.

I've heard that also but wonder why maker marked and dated shovels are much scarcer than the one just marked "US". If all WW2 shovels were dated I'd expect them to be more common.

Maybe the huge WWI production made unuseful big contracts for the 1910 e.t. during WWII and the arrival of the M1943 made the rest.
