looks good, you could probably use a tooth pick to try and scrape off the traces of red paint

 

maybe you could add a hemet net , I have seen photos of the M1917A1 with a net , then the traces of red wont be as noticable

Looks like a dam nice helmet, for some reason i am starting to think it may of been used for a forestry (logging) company would explain the red paint but doesn't fit with how nice the liner and straps are.

Good save on the helmet! When you had the liner out did you see any markings on the leather? The liners were sometimes ink stamped with the date.

Thank you for the good word! Sure was nice to see the original paint under there. (But my wife says it looked better red!! :lol:)

Thanks! But alas, there were no dates. Just an army ordnance stamp on the liner lobe and pad.
