B.A.R.gunner Posted May 26, 2011 Share #1 Posted May 26, 2011 I recently acquired a 1963 army lantern, i emptied the old gasoline, and filled it up with new gas, i light it and it was working fine for about 30 seconds, then all of a sudden the mantle burst into flames and i shut it off. Does anyone know why it did this or if theres a fix?
flyer333555 Posted May 26, 2011 Share #2 Posted May 26, 2011 I have never owned one, but I am thinking that it lost pressure either an obstruction in the pipe or the gasket in the tank cannot hold the pressure. Luis R.
Pops506th Posted May 26, 2011 Share #3 Posted May 26, 2011 The aluminum tube that goes from the valve up to the mantle is often the problem. When those lanterns were shipped, they included two extra of those tubes. as they were problem areas. They can be found on ebay. I have 5 of those lanterns and just picked up a bunch of the generator tubes (that's what they're called) for spares.
craig_pickrall Posted May 26, 2011 Share #4 Posted May 26, 2011 If it is a Coleman brand you can probably buy just about any part you need direct from them online. They sell just about all the parts to keep anything they ever made running for ever.

Pops506th Posted May 27, 2011 Share #7 Posted May 27, 2011 Cool. Glad it worked. I just picked up a 1965 dated one but haven't had a chance to fire it up.
