If fact both his younger brother Jeff and Dad Lloyd were in the USGG, Lloyd in WWII, and later in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Jeff also in the CG Reserves, 7 years, from early 1968 I think.

Jeff in his Boot Camp service portrait circa 1968.

Lloyd as a Commodore sometime in the 60s ( the CG Aux had different Officer Cap devices back then from what they have now).

John L. Russell made several film appearances including Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Oklahoma Annie and Rio Bravo. He was most famous for his leading role in the ABC Western TV series The Lawman which aired from 1958-1962. During WWII he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marine Corps and was assigned as an assistant Intell officer with H&S Company 6th Marines. On January 1, 1943 when the 6th Marines relieved the 8th Marines off the line at Guadalcanal, Russell was with the regiment. My grandfather who was a BAR gunner with L Company 3/6 vividly remembered Russell. My grandfather is a huge fan of Western films, even today he watches them on DVD every Saturday recalled Russell because he was unusually tall. Russell passed away in 1991 of enphysemia.

excellent photo! of him when he was a young Marine :D

Yeah there's not much on him when he was in, like what did he do, AMTRAC crewman, Artilleryman, Infantry????, was he in Lebanon? Was he buddies with the other guys in Hollywood who were in at the exact or around the same time he was in, like Keitel, Bologna, or even ones in earlier like McQueen, Hackman, George C. Scott?

Paul Hornung.

Correct, Hornung was a Reservist with the Wisconsin based 896th Engineer Company, they were activated because of the Berlin Wall, and went to Riley. Can't find no info on the 896th Eng Co, can any one else?

Here's another Hornung service foto, is he wearing a shoulder patch?

Ah ha, I think that's a 5th Army patch, 5th Army controlled Reserve units in Wisconsin in the 50s-70s.
